Report on the Overall Activities of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation

Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world today. Globally, 229 countries are registered with the International Volleyball Federation, and there are 400 million volleyball players—roughly 10% of the world’s population. Since 1964, volleyball has been a regular event in the Olympic Games. In Bangladesh, volleyball ranks just behind cricket and football in terms of popularity. From rural villages to bustling cities, from schools to colleges, boys and girls play volleyball regularly.

Under the management of the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF), numerous initiatives have been taken to develop volleyball at the grassroots level. Regular school volleyball competitions (boys and girls), inter-district competitions (men and women), district leagues, youth volleyball competitions, and age-group-based tournaments are being organized. To further energize the sport, BVF also hosts national competitions, inter-college/university tournaments (both male and female), open women’s tournaments, national beach volleyball competitions, Dhaka Metropolitan Premier League, First and Second Division Leagues, Independence Day tournaments, Victory Day tournaments, and the Federation Cup.

In addition to local events, the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation has successfully hosted 12 international indoor and beach volleyball tournaments. Furthermore, both the senior and age-level national volleyball teams regularly participate in international competitions and travel abroad for advanced training. Below is a summary of major international events and achievements from 2015 to 2024:

Recognizing the importance of grassroots development in building a strong national team, the federation regularly provides sports materials (volleyballs, nets, trophies, etc.) and financial assistance to local league organizers across districts. It is believed that excellence at the grassroots will eventually lead to national success, and national victories will spread Bangladesh’s reputation globally.
